![]() One of our most rewarding partnerships is with the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Global Health Institute.
The Institute’s goal is to determine both root causes of ill health and to find the best practices for sustainable health using a holistic, place-based approach. Together we facilitate Global Health Field Experiences. Our excursions provide an opportunity for students to witness the function and/or dysfunction of health systems in place, and to integrate those lessons into their ongoing coursework and future careers. We host two field excursions each year, one to Nepal and another to Sri Lanka. |
Working together in Nepal:
Global Health reflections:
"I think there’s a lot to be learned by Americans from Sri Lankan culture, and I can’t think of a better way to soak it all in than to immerse yourself in the country. If you’re thinking about this trip, don’t. Stop it. Don’t think anymore. Just go :) "
"While giving labor in shramadana I finally felt like I was part of the solution. Since returning from Nepal I have made an effort to give more of my time to community service and donate money to worthy organizations instead of spending it on goods I could do without." "My stay in Shikharpa opened my eyes to the narrow view I had of the world as a place full of problems too large for my undertaking. I am so grateful to Sarvodaya for shifting this perspective, and empowering me to be in action and of service to others." "I came away with a new-found sense of accomplishment and pride in myself, which makes me believe I can go on to approach much scarier and more daunting challenges in my life." Want more?
