In Reno, Nev., during the last week of June, residents will celebrate their fifth annual “Get to Know Your Neighbor Week.” It’s a celebration that has generated more than 65 simultaneous potlucks with thousands of participants. “We’ve created a decentralized model where neighbors invite neighbors from a three-block radius,” Richard Flyer explains. “It’s self-organizing; we provide a downloadable form for people to put their names and addresses on, and then everyone is invited to bring food.”
