Polhena Community Centre Cooking Demonstrations (Polhena and Matara)
Opening July 2006



Learn about traditional Sri Lankan food in this new community centre in a Tsunami-impacted village, with regular demonstrations of traditional Sri Lankan cooking combined with the opportunity to dine with the village community and enjoy traditional cultural entertainment.


Balapitiya Community Arts & Cultural Centre (Balapitiya)
Opening September 2006

Watch local children who survived the tsunami perform traditional Southern dance & drama in an open-air amphitheatre at this new community centre. Enjoy local snacks and drinks in the restaurant plus the chance to purchase locally made handicrafts.

Thelwatta Handicrafts Centre (Thelwatta)

A livelihoods development centre for handicrafts training for women Tsunami survivors plus a handicrafts shop and traditional restaurant – awaiting funding.
Ambalangoda Tsunami Information Centre (Ambalangoda)

Factual information on the Tsunami, its cause, impact and recovery process – awaiting funding.

Bandaragama Residential Learning Centre and Retreat (Bandaragama)
Some facilities already open.

Residential learning centre, conferences, meditation and yoga retreats in a stunning lakeside setting of biodiversity. A training room, restaurant and simple dormitory accommodation for up to 50 is available now; twin rooms and larger conference facilities available from end-2006.

Saliyapura Organic Farm (Saliyapura and Anuradhapura)
New facilities complete by end-2006

Half-day farm tours with lunch and residential ‘voluntourist’ farm-working stays on this demonstration organic farm close to Anuradhapura
